Not far from there is the bridge of remembrance, which is a sobering sight worth visiting. From there we were able to wonder down to a small market place built from shipping containers, where we stopped for a coffee. However, it might not be standing for long so I would get in quick. My favorite place to visit was the old Cathedral which is highly topical as the debate between tearing it down, or restoring it has been going on for a few years now. One could catch the tram, or some cute old fashioned double-decker buses to aid in their inner city exploration. Spending time wandering the city and taking in the sights - or lack thereof (there are many gaps in the architecture as the city is struggling to rebuild) is a great way to spend your day. In this place an old fashioned church village is met with a dystopic city atmosphere that still remains after the Earthquakes that rocked the city a few years ago. Good thing they did too as it was about time I explored the picturesque city that is Christchurch. They even delivered it to my door so that I might get on with my day. In hindsight I needn't have worried so much as the fantastic staff at Air New Zealand quickly located my pack and had it on the next flight down. Traveling alone isn't always easy and this was one of those moments where it seemed as if the quality of my entire trip was hanging precariously over a cliff as I didn't know if I would have my pack returned in time to go on my camp.
